According to reports, ex-Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy has committed to Duke.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy plans to transfer to Duke after visiting several other colleges in the last week.
Murphy, a redshirt freshman who entered the transfer portal on December 16, will play for new Blue Devils coach Manny Diaz in Durham, N.C., in 2024.
In the current transfer portal window, the former five-star prospect has emerged as one of the most sought-after quarterbacks.
With three seasons of eligibility remaining, the 6’5″, 238-pound signal-caller will be able to play immediately.
Murphy chose to enter the transfer portal because to Texas’ wealth of quarterback potential.
Both incumbent starter Quinn Ewers, a redshirt sophomore, and rookie Arch Manning are anticipated to return next season.
Murphy preferred Duke to Baylor and Oregon State.
Murphy took over for Ewers for the 2023 season after he was injured.
Murphy threw for 418 yards and three touchdowns while leading the Longhorns to victories over BYU and Kansas State.
