Lionel Messi has persuaded some of the most iconic players of his generation – including Luis Suarez – to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami in Major League Soccer
Federico Redondo has signed a contract with Inter Miami from Argentinos Juniors.
The Major League Soccer (MLS) season in 2027 will mark the end of the 21-year-old midfielder’s contract, which Miami may extend by an additional 12 months. After Redondo obtains the required visa to play in the US, the transfer will be completed.
Redondo’s signing is a coup for Miami, who David Beckham co-owns. The young player has represented Argentina at the youth level and was a regular for Juniors the previous season. He is anticipated to compete in the Olympics in Paris this summer with Argentina’s U23 team.
Redondo’s ability to join for Miami demonstrates the influence Lionel Messi has had on the team since taking over as captain after his departure last summer. Since Messi’s transfer, players like Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets have all signed with Miami.
“We’re excited to have Federico join Inter Miami as an exciting young midfielder,” stated Chris Henderson, the sports director and chief soccer officer of the team.
“He is a very talented player who demonstrates awareness when out of possession and is quick with the ball at his feet. As we aim to expand on our accomplishments in 2024, we feel he will not only be a valuable addition to our team right away but also has a lot of potential.”

Since their 2020 debut season, Miami has emerged as the MLS’s most talked-about team. Last season, they took home their first trophy as Messi’s ten goals ignited them to victory in the League Cup. He received the title of Best Player in the competition.
The Argentina captain, who won the 2022 World Cup, is, in the opinion of Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique, growing football in the United States. “I see Leo happy, he fulfilled all his dreams when he started playing,” Pique said on ESPN.
“The World Cup was the pinnacle of everything, and I believe he is growing soccer in Miami.” His reputation and his participation in Major League Soccer contributed to the strengthening of the United States. Fans of football wanted Messi to win the global championship.
“Especially in light of the skeptics who claimed he was skipping the World Cup and questioned his career. I believe that all uncertainties have been dispelled. He is the greatest football player in history. He took Barcelona to a whole new level.”
In their MLS debut last Thursday, Miami defeated Real Salt Lake 2-0. On Monday, they play LA Galaxy to continue their campaign. After the game on Thursday, Miami coach Gerardo Martino remarked of Messi’s performance, saying, “He looked loose, fine and showed a lot of speed.”
