The January transfer window is now closed, and it has been a fairly successful month for Tottenham by all accounts. With players coming in, and lots of fringe players heading out the door, Ange Postecoglou has told the press he is happy with the business, but revealed he just has one minor disappointment from the window.
Timo Werner, who joined on loan until the end of the season, and Radu Dragusin, who arrived from Genoa after a tussle with Bayern Munich for his signing, were Spurs’ first two acquisitions of the month.
The two have immediately increased the depth of Ange Postecoglou’s squad, with Werner having a particularly noticeable effect since he has started every game for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt) and already has three assists.
Then, on the day of the deadline, Spurs seem to have made a wise financial decision by signing 18-year-old Swedish sensation Lucas Bergvall, defeating Barcelona to complete the acquisition.
In the meantime, this month has seen the departure of players like Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon, and Japhet Tanganga from the team.
How does Postecoglou feel about the transfer window?
Is Postecoglou content now? Sort of, anyway. During his most recent press conference, the Spurs manager disclosed his one regret from the transfer window, as reported by Football.London.
“The only thing that disappointed us was that, although I thought we had a wonderful opportunity, the club didn’t think it was appropriate, so he ended up moving on. In jest, Postecoglou mentioned Lewis Hamilton’s departure from the Formula 1 world and said, “He went to Ferrari instead.”
“Did I not get you all fired up there? After a somewhat uneventful day yesterday, I thought you deserved something,” he continued.
Postecoglou then added, sounding more serious: “We had clear objectives.” Radu filled the void left by Davinson Sanchez’s departure at center back, which was excellent. Having Timo arrive early is also great. Despite Sonny’s absence due to injuries, he has already contributed.
It takes time to settle if we wait until the last day. Both have made a good transition. We obtained some nice loans with our outgoings. It’s fantastic for Alejo Veliz to obtain playing time at a reputable team. Players with decent debts were Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine.
To be honest, I believe that this window has been fantastic. The players we have added are just what we needed, and getting rid of some of the surplus has been a tremendous plus. With our recent stellar recruiting, I’m eager to see what we do in the summer.
