Ange Postecoglou is speaking ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League game at Chelsea
Ange Postecoglou is speaking to the assembled media at his press conference ahead of Tottenham’s derby at Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Australian will be answering questions from reporters in the aftermath of the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at home in the North London Derby on Sunday with another derby immediately on the horizon. That comes in the shape of Chelsea and a trip to Stamford Bridge, a stadium where Tottenham have very few happy memories over the years.
The Blues have a manager who knows a thing or two about Spurs in Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine spent five-and-a-half years at the north London club, recording three top-three finishes before a Champions League final appearance and fourth-place spot in his final full season.
Postecoglou will be asked about Pochettino, his time at Spurs, the chaotic first meeting between the two sides in November and the Argentine’s current struggles at Chelsea, as well as how Tottenham need to bounce back from the defeat to the Gunners.
The Spurs boss will also deliver an update on the injury that forced Timo Werner off in that game on Sunday as well as any other fresh problems within the squad.
Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to Postecoglou. Scroll down for his latest updates from the press conference at Hotspur Way.
Here’s every word Postecoglou said
Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about Tottenham Hotspur’s upcoming Premier League match at Chelsea
We’ve got the full transcript with every word the Spurs boss said which you can find right here.
I think I’ve answered this question and I don’t think it satisfies people, but no I don’t see it as an issue. It’s something that we work on along with everything in our game.
There are far more important things that we need to concentrate on at the moment in terms of the team we’re building.
I think people want to be believe, and it can be, that football is very prescriptive. You’ve got an illness, here’s the tablet and you feel better. I’ve never believed that.
I’ve always been about trying to create an environment and a style of football that can win things. I’ve never worked in a prescriptive manner and I certainly won’t be doing it now.

Postecoglou on Romero’s discipline since that Chelsea red card
On reflection, when you look at challenge he got sent off for, I’ve seen half a dozen since so he maybe paid a price for being who he is. I haven’t had an issue with his discipline all year. That game we started well, we were flying. I haven’t had an issue. If historically it was different, it wasn’t under my watch. He’s been fantastic this year.

The Spurs boss on Vicario being targeted
I think he’s seen that there’s a challenge. It’s something that even I’m struggling with because I watched the Champions League last night and there was a foul given on the keeper straight away. We’re trying to get clarity on it.

Postecoglou on team news
Not good. We’ve had a couple of injuries. Timo with his hamstring. With only two to three weeks or so left, he’ll miss the rest of the season. Ben Davies got a calf injury in the game and that’s the rest of his season. Skippy should be back.

Will Timo Werner be fit and if not who will replace him?
Mikey Moore and Callum Olusesi are both highly-rated young players at Tottenham Hotspur
There’s not too many options to replace Timo Werner in tomorrow’s matchday squad if the German misses out. A youngster could get the nod but the U21s also have a big game on the same evening. You can find the four main options we reckon could come in by heading right here.

Set pieces have been a worry
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has won trophies galore during his career as manager with an attacking brand of football
Spurs have conceded far too many set piece goals this season but there is hope in that regard when you look at Postecoglou’s two years at Celtic. For more on that head right here.
