The Seleccao captain was bloodied in the face after colliding with the Olympiacos goalkeeper while challenging for an air ball in the host’s penalty area.
Portugal entered their penultimate Nations League group stage game knowing that only a win would put them in contention to challenge Spain for League A Group 2.

Before the end of the first half, the former champions had established their dominance, leading by two goals at the break thanks to Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United.
They had to deal with the possibility of losing their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo after a nasty clash with the Czech goalkeeper first. The 37-year-old forward jumped to meet a high ball in an attempt to break the deadlock within the first 15 minutes.
However, he was hit in the face by the goalkeeper, causing him to bleed profusely. Both teams’ nerves were calmed after treatment was administered, and the Manchester United striker simply carried on after the wound across his nose was plastered.
Portugal was able to extend their lead to three in the early minutes of the second half after Patrick Schick hit the crossbar with a spot kick before halftime.
Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes combined once more to give the former a hat-trick. Cristiano Ronaldo’s perseverance was rewarded with a goal, and the Seleccao’s evening concluded with them topping their Nations League group following Spain’s defeat to Switzerland.
