Barcelona handed massive injury boost towards Celta Vigo clash
Barcelona will look to maintain their lead in the La Liga standings when they face Celta Vigo at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday night.
The Blaugrana have received an injury boost ahead of the game, as Toni Juanmarti reports that Frenkie de Jong is back in full team training and should be available for Sunday’s match unless something drastic happens.
De Jong was one of Barcelona’s international break casualties after suffering a minor injury while playing for the Netherlands against Poland.
The midfielder’s injury was not serious, but he was sent back to the club from the national team camp, where he has been recovering.
De Jong was spotted in training with his teammates earlier this week and it was expected that he would be ready in time for the game against Inter Milan next week.
But, now, Toni Juanmarti is stating that the former AFC Ajax ace trained with the group again today and seems to be fully fit. So, barring any late surprises, the Dutchman is expected to be in the squad list to face Celta on Sunday.
De Jong’s return comes at a good time for Xavi Hernandez, who recently lost Franck Kessie to injury. With Sergio Busquets needing rest ahead of crucial matches against Inter and Real Madrid, the manager will have an extra option with the Dutch star back.
At the same time, the former Ajax star, who was linked with Manchester United over the summer, could be an option at center-back for Xavi, having played in the position in pre-season this year.
Barcelona currently leads Real Madrid in the league table due to a superior goal difference. With Los Blancos playing Getafe on Saturday, they could take over first place, and the Blaugrana will need to win.summer.
