SHOCKING CHANGE: Erik Ten Hag Drop Man Utd Duo To Start Pair Who Everton Will Be ‘Frightened Of

Paul Scholes believes Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial should start alongside Marcus Rashford against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Ronaldo, who has yet to start in the Premier League, played 90 minutes in the Red Devils’ 3-2 Europa League win over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday night, despite missing numerous chances.

United trailed at halftime before a Rashford double and a Martial strike earned them a hard-fought victory.

After the game, Scholes named Rashford, Ronaldo, and Martial as United’s front three for the match against Everton.

His decision was largely based on how ineffective Jadon Sancho and Antony were in Cyprus.

When asked if he could see Ronaldo starting at Goodison Park, Scholes told BT Sport: “I can on Sunday, yeah.

“I think the impression the two subs [Rashford and Martial] have made tonight with Cristiano as well.

“There aren’t a lot of games Cristiano will be able to play in but I think Everton could be one of them.

“It’s not a massive pitch, he won’t have to be sprinting out everywhere, working the channels.

“When he’s got two wide lads who have got goals in them, I think the two wide lads that played today, Jadon Sancho and Antony, I know Antony scored on Sunday [against Man City], but I think Martial and Rashford look more dangerous.

“I think they’ve got a little bit more about them. They can go either way, they’re quick, defenders will be frightened to death of them.

“Cristiano, okay, he had a lot of chances tonight, it didn’t quite work for him, it wasn’t quite his night, but that won’t last.” If he gets chances, and he will on Sunday, he will score.’

Owen Hargreaves, another pundit, agreed with Scholes, saying, “They linked up really well, Marcus and Cristiano.”

Marcus is fantastic with the ball, and Cristiano’s run [for United’s equalizer] is superb. It’s nice to see them working together; we often see them both having shots.” Because they can play wide, I believe they can link up with Martial, Marcus, and Cristiano through the middle.

“It’s nice to see Marcus being really positive because I think when he runs with the ball he’s actually almost impossible to play against, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s a good striker of the ball, with Martial and Cristiano there’s options there to be positive about.”

United head to Goodison on Sunday looking to bounce back from the last Premier League outing.

Ten Hag’s men ended a run of four wins on the bounce in spectacular fashion at The Etihad.
