According to MARCA, veteran midfielder, Luka Modric is set to start for Real Madrid against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing to Osasuna last weekend. On Sunday, the Merengues were held to a 1-1 draw by the La Liga club, with Karim Benzema’s missed penalty proving costly.
At the same time, Real Madrid lacked Modric’s quality and vision in the middle of the park at night. The Croatian was not in the game because he had returned from the international break with an injury.
The injury, however, was minor, and the 37-year-old has made a quick recovery, with Carlo Ancelotti including him in the squad for tomorrow’s match against Shakhtar.
When asked about the possibility of the veteran star starting from the start, the Italian tactician did not reveal much during his press conference.
However, MARCA is now claiming that Modric will start against the Ukrainian giants from the start, despite previous reports indicating that Ancelotti would be cautious with his star midfielder with the first El Clasico of the season only a few weeks away.
Los Blancos are said to want to advance to the Champions League Round of 16 by winning the next two games against Shakhtar. As a result, despite only recently recovering from an injury, Modric is set to start on Wednesday.
Along with Modric, Real Madrid welcomed back Lucas Vazquez, but the Spaniard is unlikely to start tomorrow, given that Dani Carvajal is Ancelotti’s undisputed first-choice right-back.
At the same time, Los Blancos are missing Thibaut Courtois, who is still recovering from his injury, and Dani Ceballos, who has picked up a new injury, ruling the duo out of the game against Shakhtar.
