After missing the 2-0 Europa League win over Sheriff Tiraspol the day before, the 25-year-old was spotted taking part in Friday’s training session at Carrington.
While the players who were heavily involved in the comfortable win in Moldova rested, Van de Beek and fellow injury returnee Facundo Pellistri joined the other first-team players who didn’t play heavily in Eastern Europe.
Pellistri has been called up to the Uruguay squad for this month’s international friendlies despite not having played since suffering an injury against Atletico Madrid in July.
However, unlike the former Penarol player, Van de Beek has not been called up to the Netherlands by former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
As things stand, the 19-year-old Dutch international is unlikely to get enough minutes with the Red Devils under Erik ten Hag to earn a recall under Van Gaal.
There is a growing possibility that United’s number 34 will be left out of the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.
The former Ajax man last appeared for the Oranje 18 months ago, when he scored off the bench against Gibraltar.
Despite his former Ajax manager taking over at Old Trafford, Van de Beek’s fortunes have not improved and he remains on the outside looking in.
After coming off the bench in the first three Premier League games of the season, the Dutchman hasn’t played since a four-minute cameo in last month’s 2-1 win over Liverpool.
Van de Beek’s last Premier League start for Manchester United came on the final day of the 2020-21 season against Wolves.
Van de Beek, on the other hand, could benefit from spending time at Carrington with Ten Hag and the United coaching staff this month, with several of United’s first-team players being called up for international duty this month.
