The Reds hijacked Tottenham Hotspur‘s bid to sign the Colombia international in January, eventually bringing him to Anfield for £49 million.
He’s only been at Liverpool for about nine months, but he appears to have been playing under Jurgen Klopp for much longer.
That’s because the former Porto winger made an immediate impact on Merseyside, forcing Klopp to use Sadio Mane as a number nine for the second half of last season because Diaz was unstoppable as a left-sided attacker.
On Tuesday night, the 25-year-old played for Colombia in a friendly win over Mexico in California.
Alexis Vega gave Mexico the lead after only six minutes, thanks to a blunder by the Liverpool attacker, who conceded the sloppy penalty that led to the opener.
Diaz committed a poor, stupid foul, and El Tiempo labeled it a “giant error.”
Despite that error, the South American went on to have excellent overall performance as his country came back from a two-goal deficit to win 3-2.
Diaz flew back to Liverpool after the game, and Klopp will want him to be as fresh as possible for Saturday’s match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.
