Letting Messi Go Was A Mistake – Barcelona President Reveals As They Plot Resigning Move In 2023

Barcelona president Joan Laporta hinted this weekend that the club is considering re-signing Lionel Messi next year.

The Barça president acknowledged that he is “indebted” to Messi and insisted that the Argentine superstar’s time at Camp Nou was not over.

Soon after, reports surfaced that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wants his former teammate to return to Camp Nou the following year.

Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG after leaving Barcelona last summer, and he will become a free agent in 2023, though he has the option of extending his stay in Paris for another year.

Nonetheless, a return to Barcelona for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner could be on the cards. According to a new update from journalist Veronica Brunati, the Catalan club has taken the first step toward re-signing Messi by admitting that letting him go was a mistake.

Indeed, Laporta’s remarks sounded a lot like an admission that the Blaugrana made a mistake by allowing their former captain to leave as a free agent last summer.

And the Blaugrana are now prepared to do everything in their power to re-sign Messi in 2023, as they want him to finish his career at Camp Nou.

According to Veronica Brunati, the club has yet to contact or hold talks with the football legend’s representatives about a possible return.

Messi’s relationship with Laporta is said to have deteriorated since his departure. But it appears that the Barça president is willing to correct that by bringing the club legend back home for another stint before calling it quits on an incredible career.
