Real Madrid Winger Wanted By Barcelona In A Bosman Deal
Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio has emerged as a transfer target for archrivals Barcelona next summer, according to a surprising report from Mundo Deportivo.
Asensio has less than a year left on his Real Madrid contract, and talks about a new deal fell through earlier this year due to his exorbitant wage demands. Following the failure of negotiations, the 26-year-old star attempted to leave the club but was unsuccessful.
Asensio, who has remained at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, has been denied game time and has had to make do with sporadic minutes as a substitute. He did, however, score his first goal of the season against RB Leipzig last week.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that some clubs were already considering signing the Spanish forward on a free transfer next year. Barcelona appears to have joined the list of interested parties as well.
According to the report, the Blaugrana regard Asensio as a mature player with many years left in his career and value him for his ability to play anywhere in attack as well as his tactical adaptability.
Despite not being a regular under Carlo Ancelotti last season, the former Mallorca ace managed to score ten goals in 31 league matches (19 starts), which Barcelona believes demonstrates his ability to make a difference.
As a result, they are keeping a close eye on Asensio’s situation, as the winger can begin talks with other clubs about a free transfer next summer, beginning in January 2023.
Asensio is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is close to Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
The Spaniard is still on the radar of clubs such as Liverpool, AC Milan, and Arsenal, and it will be interesting to see if Barcelona’s initial interest turns into something more substantial in 2023.
