
Flamengo in Brazil has extended the contract of youngster Joo Gomes until 2027 in order to fend off interest from Liverpool.
The Reds were linked with a January move for the 21-year-old midfielder earlier this week, with reports claiming they were planning one.
According to journalist Julio Miguel Neto, Jurgen Klopp and his team had been keeping an eye on the player for some time and planned to make a move once the January transfer window opened.
They were not the only European club interested in him, with Atletico Madrid and Manchester United also named as potential suitors.
However, it appears that their chances of acquiring him have been harmed as Flamengo has moved quickly to sign him to a new contract.
According to Colorado Flo, the Brazilian club has resolved the complicated contractual situation’ surrounding the midfielder by signing him to a new contract until 2025.
This has resulted in the player, who was previously one of the club’s lowest earners, increasing his monthly salary to R$250,000 for the next four and a half years.
