In an interview with El Larguero, veteran Spanish striker Fernando Llorente stated that he has always wanted to play for Real Madrid and would jump at the chance if approached.
Since leaving Eibar at the end of the season, the 37-year-old has been without a club. Llorente has extensive experience playing for clubs such as Athletic Club, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, Sevilla, and Napoli.
However, the former Spanish international has now admitted that Real Madrid is the only club he wishes to play for. He also revealed that he was never close to joining Real Madrid.
He did, however, admit that a transfer could have occurred when his contract at Athletic expired in 2013, but Juventus acted quickly to sign him up.
“I would have preferred to wear white.” “What Real Madrid is doing in the Champions League and what we saw last season is incredible,” Llorente said.
“I was never particularly close to Real Madrid.” When they wanted me, they didn’t pay the clause, and Juventus was quicker,” he added.
Llorente, who is still looking for a new club this season, also stated that if the opportunity to join Real Madrid presented itself, he would jump at it.
“I’d go to Real Madrid for free tomorrow,” exclaimed the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner.
Los Blanco lacks depth in the attacking department behind captain Karim Benzema, as manager Carlo Ancelotti has dropped Mariano Diaz. Rodrygo Goes, on the other hand, has thrived in recent matches when Real Madrid has been without Benzema.
They are expected to sign a new striker either next year or in 2024. However, there is very little chance that they will consider a move for Llorente.
