Jules Kounde recently discussed his decision to join Barcelona in the summer and revealed what Xavi told him prior to the move.
The defender was wanted by both Chelsea and Barcelona, and he admits he spoke with both Thomas Tuchel and Xavi before deciding on the Camp Nou.
“When I spoke with Xavi, he told me that my qualities correspond to his game plan, which is to start from the back, play high, and use my speed and anticipation.” He also wants an aggressive team, and “we are one of the high-pressing teams,” he explained.
“He saw me in this system, and I saw myself in this team that I saw rise to the top of the table last season.” We were fifteen points ahead of Sevilla in the middle of the season. When Xavi arrived, I noticed the changes he had made and the direction he was taking. “I enjoyed it.”
Kounde also stated that he wants to be a part of the team that brings success back to Barcelona after a difficult couple of years.
“First, I arrive at a large club that has seen its share of ups and downs. I’ve arrived at a project that I wouldn’t call reconstruction because we already have a competitive team, but rather an enhancement.
“I was interested in being a part of this new wave, in search of titles, and in restoring Barça to its rightful place among the best.” Then there was the talk with the coach (Xavi). We mostly talked about football. I felt a genuine sense of confidence and self-awareness. game and my attributes,”
Since his switch, the defender has performed admirably at both center-back and on the right. In five appearances for Xavi’s team, Kounde has three assists.
