With less than a month until the start of the new season, Barcelona is under enormous pressure to offload their fringe players, which could help them register new signings.
Oscar Mingueza is one of the players whose future at the club is uncertain. The defender is eager to leave Camp Nou after Xavi deemed him surplus to requirements.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mingueza has a plethora of suitors, with AEK Athens, TSG Hoffenheim, Genoa, and Celta Vigo all interested in his services.
Genoa and Hoffenheim have recently dropped out of the race, with the latter signing Ozan Kabak from Schalke. It has put AEK Athens and Celta in the driving seat to sign the Barcelona academy graduate.
According to the report, negotiations between Barcelona and these two clubs are moving slowly. Neither team has any difficulties reaching personal terms with Mingueza, but there are minor differences over the transfer fee with Barça.
The Catalans are demanding a relatively high price for Mingueza by Catalan standards, and the two clubs are hoping that the Catalans will soon lower their valuation in order to sanction the sale of their academy prospect.
Mingueza himself is pleading with Barça to expedite the talks because he wants to continue his development by moving elsewhere.
The versatile defender has been noticeably absent from Barcelona’s current pre-season tour to the United States. Although the 23-year-old has been permitted to train at Ciutat Esportiva, it is clear that the defender wishes to leave Camp Nou as soon as possible.
Much more could be revealed in the coming days as Barcelona seeks to expedite the sale of their fringe players in order to make more room in the camp for newer players.
