Rio Ferdinand believes Erik ten Hag will let Manchester United captain Harry Maguire leave the club next summer.
The world’s most expensive defender is on the outside looking in at Old Trafford, where the former Ajax manager prefers Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his first-choice center-back pairing.
The 29-year-old, who cost Leicester City £80 million, hasn’t started a Premier League game since the Red Devils were thrashed 4-0 by Brentford in Ten Hag’s second game in charge.
Maguire started United’s Europa League opener against Real Sociedad, but after being defeated by the La Liga side, Ten Hag decided to bring back Varane and Martinez for the 2-0 win against Sheriff Tiraspol, forcing Maguire to accept a place on the bench once more.

Despite falling out of favor under the Dutchman, United’s number five has been named to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Nations League games against Germany and Italy this month.
Maguire’s future at the Theatre of Dreams has been called into question, with United appearing to be a far better side with the pacey Varane and Martinez spearheading our backline.
On his Vibe with FIVE podcast, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was asked if he thinks Maguire will be sold next summer.
“If there are takers, I think Erik ten Hag lets him go,” the 43-year-old said.
“I think he’ll want to go, and if he’s not playing, I don’t think he wants to sit there – there have been other people who have chosen to sit there when they’re not playing, and that’s fine, but I don’t think Harry Maguire is one of those guys.”
“He loves football and wants to play, and he’ll talk to the manager openly and honestly.”
Ferdinand has also stated that he would prefer to start AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori at center-back over Maguire.
