Christian Eriksen Replies To Speculation On His Best Playing Position At Manchester United

Many people have argued about where he fits best in this Manchester United team led by Erik ten Hag.

When Eriksen first arrived at Old Trafford in the summer, some expected him to play in the No.10 position. However, after failing to sign Frenkie de Jong during that transfer window, Eriksen has found himself playing deeper in midfield alongside Scott McTominay.

So far, this role has yielded results for United, and Eriksen was named United’s player of the month for September by the fans. With questions about the 30-year-best old’s position still lingering, the 30-year-old addressed the issue in an interview with MUTV.

“I’m not sure, I’m quite surprised about all the positional things,” he said. “I started as a winger in all the games, even when I was at Spurs, but I would often drop down to get the ball, collect it, and help the build-up back then, so that hasn’t really changed in that sense.”

Obviously, you start in different positions on the field, then it’s about how the team plays and how the team wants to move, how the manager wants the team to move, and then you move from there.

I still feel like the same player I was before, maybe a little further away from goal in some games, but it’s not like I haven’t been there before.”

The Dane will most likely continue to play in a deeper role when United travels to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Sunday. Erik ten Hag’s team would close the gap on Pep Guardiola’s side to two points with a win.
