That is how it proved in front of a raucous Anfield crowd, as his Liverpool side dominated Rangers from the start. Nunez made an excellent shot. Kostas Tsimikas advanced well, and it was his pass that caused the Uruguayan to be fouled for the crucial free kick.
There was a lot to do, but Alexander-Arnold makes it look easy, effortlessly whipping the ball past Allan McGregor. Following all of the attention on his defensive flaws, this was a reminder that he is a player who can do things that other players cannot.
It shattered the Rangers’ game plan. A healthy victory over Hearts had restored confidence, but memories of heavy defeats to Celtic, Ajax, and Napoli would have lingered. Would this team falter again if faced with a higher-level opponent?
