Christian Eriksen’s goal for Denmark has left Manchester United fans speechless.
The first international break of the season has caused a pause in club football as national teams play their final round of fixtures before the World Cup in Qatar in November. While other federations are playing friendlies, European countries are competing in the Nations League.
Many United players have been called up, including Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, who could play for England against Italy on Friday, and Eriksen, who played for Denmark against Croatia on Thursday. The Danes may have lost the game, but it was Eriksen who stole the show with a spectacular goal.
The playmaker has been outstanding for Erik ten Hag’s side in recent weeks, and his equalizing goal in Zagreb demonstrated that. Eriksen received the ball 30 yards from goal, turned, took a few steps forward, and then unleashed a stunning bending shot into the back of the net.
It was somewhat tainted by the fact that Lovro Majer scored his own long-distance effort just two minutes later to give the hosts the win and top spot in League A Group 1, but that hasn’t dampened United fans’ admiration for it. Supporters expressed their surprise on social media that United was able to sign Eriksen on a free transfer, and with fierce rivals Manchester City waiting for him when the Premier League resumes, they hope he can replicate that magic for his club.
