Jurgen Klopp will expect more from his Liverpool team when they take on Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Reds were held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton at the weekend, and they have now won only three of their last nine games in all competitions. They’re 11 points behind the leaders in the Premier League and outside of the Champions League qualification spots, so no more slip-ups will be tolerated.
Liverpool’s probable lineup vs. Rangers (4-3-3)
Alisson – Goalkeeper Alisson has conceded 14 goals in his last nine games and is still looking for his first Champions League clean sheet of the season.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – Klopp has done his best to shield Alexander-Arnold from criticism, but the right-frustrating back’s performances haven’t helped.
CB: Virgil van Dijk – The Dutchman is another who has fallen short of his lofty expectations this season.
CB: Joel Matip – As a result of his underwhelming performances, a small number of fans have begun to call for Matip to be benched. However, with Ibrahima Konate still out, that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
LB: Kostas Tsimikas – With Andy Robertson also out, Tsimikas is likely to keep his spot.
DM: Fabinho – Following the Brighton draw, Fabinho has been challenged to rediscover his energy and lead Liverpool’s midfield press once more.
CMThiago – The Spaniard’s experience at the highest level could be crucial for Liverpool as they seek to end their slump.
CM: Harvey Elliott – Elliott’s youthful exuberance has been crucial for a Liverpool team that is maturing. He appears to have cemented a spot in the Reds’ midfield for the foreseeable future.
RWMohamed Salah – Salah scored in his last European outing against Ajax and will be confident of doing so again here.
ST: Roberto Firmino – Despite the fact that his spot in the squad is under threat, Firmino has put in some excellent performances this season. He scored twice against Brighton and deserves to start this game as well.
LW: Diogo Jota is battling fitness issues and will not be risked in place of Luis Diaz.
