Real Madrid’s star, who is nearing the end of his recovery, could be available against Osasuna
Lucas Vazquez made a strong start to the new 2022/23 season. The 31-year-old makeshift right back played important minutes against Almeria and Espanyol before suffering a thigh injury against Mallorca that ended his run.
According to Mundo Deportivo, although Vazquez is not the first choice for the right-back position, he is regarded as someone who adds a new dimension to the team. After all, his attacking instincts are being used in a rather covert manner.
However, that one injury suffered against Mallorca, where he played more than 70 minutes, has now been capitalized on by a certain Dani Carvajal, who has played the full 90 minutes in four of Madrid’s last five games.
Throughout this, Vazquez is working to get back into shape. For that reason, the 31-year-old is putting in long hours in Valdebebas every day in order to assist Carlo Ancelotti against Osasuna on Sunday, October 2.
According to the report, he is nearing the end of his recovery from injury and should be available for the upcoming match following the international break.
To be fair, Vazquez was never a problem for Real Madrid in the first place. Based on his injury history, where he missed just one game last season, a return of 41 games across all competitions that season warrants a spot this season.
Regularity has been the key to his success and will continue to be so, especially after making himself available for 75 games across all competitions over the last two seasons.
The Spaniard is under contract until 2024, and it should be noted that he was on the verge of leaving two seasons ago. That was a critical point in his career as he turned a setback into confidence and worked his way up the ladder.
For the time being, the 31-year-old is keeping his promises by playing as a winger or as a converted right-back. And Ancelotti will be hoping to have him back in his squad as soon as possible.
