Bayern and Leipzig both outperformed their respective xG values of 3.38 and 1.32 in a clinical performance on both ends. Leipzig was remarkably efficient, with Marcel Halstenberg’s 3-1 goal and Dani Olmo’s 4-3 goal rated at two and four percent, respectively.
Halstenberg scored one goal and added another, giving him a finishing rating of +1.0. Olmo (+0.9), Jamal Musiala (+0.8), and Benjamin Pavard (+0.8) followed, with the Bayern duo scoring with their only efforts on goal, with xG of 24 and 18 percent, respectively.
Interestingly, Leipzig’s attacking third play was evenly distributed across wide (32 percent on each side) and central areas (18 in each half space). On the other hand, Bayern launched 31 percent of their attacks from the left wing and 26 percent from the left-hand half space, compared to 21 percent from the right wing and half-space.
Musiala was the standout performer on the Bayern left, scoring the first goal and setting up the second and third. Sadio Mane, a free-roaming forward, Alphonso Davies, a central midfielder, and Lucas Hernandez, a left-side central defender, all saw plenty of the ball on that side of the field.
Musiala was, unsurprisingly, Bayern’s Most Pressed Player. The Bayern teenager came under opposition pressure 27 times, trailing only Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Konrad Laimer in that category.
Davies sounded the Speed Alert with a match-high speed of 22.12 mph/ 35.61 km/h. Kimmich (+5.2) and Hernandez (+4.8) led the way in pass efficiency, while a linesman’s flag denied Mane’s second and third goals.
