Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will be representing England at the European Championships this summer
Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted Jude Bellingham’s performances have come as no surprise to him or any other England internationals.
Alexander-Arnold is preparing to compete at Euro 2024 alongside Bellingham, a player Liverpool were long linked with, as the Three Lions look to end their long wait for silverware.
Bellingham heads into this tournament as the star of the show, having played an instrumental role in Real Madrid winning the La Liga and Champions League double, and will be expected to continue delivering his talismanic performances this summer.
Such impressive displays from a player still only 20 years of age has left many stunned, though Alexander-Arnold has made clear the rise of the Real star is no shock to him.
“For people closest to him who saw him play at the World Cup, and have been with him at England camps, it’s no surprise how he has performed this season, with the mentality and ability he has got. He’s going to be very important to England, now and in the future,” Liverpool’s No.66 told FourFourTwo.
While the Birmingham-born midfielder has been single-handedly winning matches at club level this campaign, replicating this dominance on a global stage will be a tall order.
It’s a fact Alexander-Arnold is fully aware of as England prepare for their opening group game against Serbia on Sunday, recognising Bellingham’s talent alone will not be enough to carry Gareth Southgate’s side to glory in Germany.

“If you take away the other 10 players and put Jude against 11, he’s going to get beat,” stressed the Liverpool vice-captain. “He needs the team, we need him. He knows that and we know that. It’s a team game. It doesn’t matter how good one individual is, you need the team to pull through. You need the full squad, especially in tournament football.
“We’re all aware of how good Jude is and how many good individuals there are in this England team – the talent we’ve got is outrageous. But I’m a firm believer that the best team wins tournaments, not the best group of individuals. We’re going to need individuals to perform, but you need 20 individuals to perform.”
