Indiana Pacers Head Coach Rick Carlisle Wins First Playoff Series Since Dallas Mavericks’ 2011 NBA Finals
Former Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle finally ended his 13-year playoff series win drought on Thursday night as his Indiana Pacers eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.
At long last, future Hall-of-Fame head coach Rick Carlisle’s 13-year playoff series win drought is over after the Indiana Pacers eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks with a 120-98 blowout win in Game 6 on Thursday night.
Carlisle, who spent 13 seasons as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, hadn’t won a playoff series since the 2011 NBA Finals when franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki outdueled LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh’s Miami Heat.
Although Carlisle was happy for everyone in the Pacers organization, he was especially thrilled for Dallas native Myles Turner, who hadn’t made it to the second round during his nine-year career until now.
“The whole city and state is behind Myles Turner,” Carlisle said. “This is nine years, he’s never advanced in the playoffs, and he was the foundation of this.”
In the first round against the Bucks, Turner averaged 19.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from deep through six games.

Carlisle’s departure from the Mavs in 2021 was abrupt, to put it mildly, but all of that drama is water under the bridge now, and both the Mavs and Pacers are in better situations than they were three years ago.
Jason Kidd, who played for Carlisle in Dallas for five seasons, has notched two 50-win seasons in three years as the Mavs’ head coach. He is on the verge of winning his third playoff series in that span as well, as Dallas holds a 3-2 series lead over the Los Angeles Clippers with Game 6 tipping off on Friday night.
All’s well that ends well, and we’re happy to see an old friend continue to succeed.
