As long anticipated, the three-time Pro Bowl running back is set to re-sign with the Dallas Cowboys, two people familiar with the situation told The Dallas Morning News on Monday. He recently agreed to terms on a one-year contract, and his signing is expected to be processed as early as Tuesday.

Before Jerry Jones confirmed that McCarthy would be returning for the upcoming season without a contract extension, there were talks about potential mutual interest between Belichick and Dallas. It’s no secret that Belichick and Jones have a long-standing friendship, and both share a win-now mentality. The report highlights Belichick’s reputation for turning talented rosters into championship teams, making him an attractive prospect for the Cowboys.
