Wolves manager Gary O’Neill has been heavily linked with taking over from David Moyes at West Ham United.

West Ham boss David Moyes is still feeling the pressure in spite of Monday’s 4-2 win over Brentford, and Gary O’Neill was recently tipped to replace the Scot.

The Hammers were on an awful run before the win over the Bees, and had gone eight games without a victory.

Things are look up again now, but there are still doubts within the club that Moyes will stay in charge beyond the end of the season.

If the Scot fails to take us on to another level regarding our playing style between now and the end of the season, then I definitely think he’ll be gone.

And O’Neill is a potential candidate to replace the 60-year-old it seems…

The football journalist told Give Me Sport that the West Ham board are fans of the job that O’Neill is doing at Wolves:

“Now that Wolves are getting towards the stage where they are safe, I guess the fear isn’t over whether Gary O’Neil is good enough to be their manager. The fear might begin to be whether they are going to be able to keep hold of O’Neil now. At the moment, we’re getting towards the stage where West Ham are going to be looking for a new manager. While Gary O’Neil isn’t going to be the top target for them, I have heard that he is somebody they like. I would be surprised if he didn’t at least crop up on a list of names if and when Moyes does end up losing his job, so that is one to keep in mind. As soon as he starts getting linked to West Ham, I think Wolves fans will suddenly love him even more and want him to stay.”

O’Neill is a very good manager, and the fact he has his Wolves side currently sitting in ninth spot in the Premier League table, just one point behind us, is a huge achievement.

The 40-year-old spent two years playing for West Ham just over a decade ago, and he’s a hugely popular figure in East London.

O’Neill deploys a high tempo, high energy brand of enthralling football, and his Wolves side really are a very exciting watch. The Beckenham-born manager embodies everything that being a West Ham manager means.

However, the one caveat to that is the fact that Moyes absolutely schooled Gary O’Neill during West Ham United’s 3-0 win over the Black Country outfit at the London Stadium back in December. So would we really want a manager who was so comprehensively outthought by the Scot? I’m not so sure we would in all fairness.
