‘He messes up…’ Shaun Wright-Phillips slams Tottenham 27-year-old after defeat to Wolves
Shaun Wright-Phillips was critical of Yves Bissouma following Tottenham’s costly 2-1 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.
Tottenham might have dominated the ball against the Midlands side, but time and time again, they were hit on the counter-attack with devastating effect.
That was proven by Wolves’ winning goal, which came after the away side broke from Spurs’ corner, with Pedro Neto flying down the wing and laying the ball off nicely for Joao Gomes to slot home his second of the game.
Shaun Wright-Phillips was critical of Yves Bissouma for the role he played in that goal and how he ‘messes up’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/02/24 at 8:35 pm).
It wasn’t the best of afternoons for Tottenham’s midfield because they weren’t allowed to settle in the middle of the park or make the ball talk like they would have liked.
In the end, it was another goal conceded from a corner and more woes from fast breaks because it is becoming an issue for the team.

“I have been a massive fan of Neto,” said Wright-Phillips. “But Bissouma messes up there.
“From that point onwards, Neto has a lot to do and a lot of ground to cover, which he covers as a winger in the correct way. He sets himself up nicely and then to pick the pass out sums up how he has been all season. He is a player who creates or scores something in literally every game so far.”
As of this moment, it is proving costly because they are now fifth in the table, two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa who beat Fulham 2-1 on Saturday.
Unai Emery’s men can go a further five points clear next week when they host Nottingham Forest because Spurs are not in action due to Chelsea’s League Cup final commitments against Liverpool.
